Homemade Deodorant

It’s official, I’m becoming a hippie. But I refuse to smell like petrulli! With a master’s in chemistry I have a large experience with toxic chemicals which is part of why I started eating organic and tried to limit what chemicals I willingly put on my body. After finally finishing the last of my normal store bought deodorant, I thought I could deal with not wearing anything. Most days this was fine but some days….well I didn’t want to get near people for fear that I stunk. I started to look into natural deodorants but many of them just still had the primary issue of containing aluminum (which is what makes them antiperspirants) or fragrance (which I’m allergic to). And then I came across a recipe for a homemade deodorant. And yesterday decided to make my own as well.

I did a small batch as a test run. I mixed in a shot glass ~1 tbsp coconut oil, ~1/2 tsp baking powder, and two drops essential citrus oil. Took a dab and rubbed into my pits. I smelt great all day! Even through my workout. I loved it. And it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin!

I’m going to continue doing them in small batches so that I can change my scent with the seasons. But this is a great fast way to smell good and avoid toxic chemicals at the same time.
